TITLE: B-24 FUNERAL DEWIL
DESCRIPTION: (GANNETT PHOTO NETWORK) A bugler plays taps at a graveside ceremony Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. Lewis was one of nine members of the B-24 that went down over France in 1944. Lewis, of Centreville, Md., was one of the pilots of the plane that departed Tibenham, England, Dec. 11, 1944, for a bombing mission of Hanua, Germany. Approximately 15 miles north of Strasbourg, France, the aricraft entered heavy overcast where it reportedly collided with another B-24. Both aircraft were lost. In September 1997, French nationals found the wreckage of that was later identified as the missing plane. (Gannett News Service, Jeff Franko)
